Chad Bristow is a park ranger who loves his job in part for the solitude it provides; he's not fond of people, or so he tells himself until Peter and the twins come waltzing into his life, turning it upside down in ways that he's not at all unhappy about and giving him things he'd never dreamed of.
One of Sean Michael's greatest strengths is his ability to write characters that are both instantly likeable and believable, and this story is no exception. The story moves along at a pace that really works, the dialogue and interaction between Chad and Peter is completely enjoyable, and the trials they go through as they deal with caring for two babies are -- from a parent's point of view -- very realistic. This story is wonderful, and despite the presence of the twins there's no dearth of amazingly erotic scenes (another of Sean Michael's strengths as a writer, which anyone who's read any of his books already knows!) Heartwarming and hot at the same time -- what more could anyone ask for?

what a fantastic, sweet romance

This is such a great story. Yes it's sweet, yes it's probably 'unrealistic', but it is very warm, uplifting and pure escapism. The characters are actually caring, loving human beings, the ones we'd all like to meet but probably never will. The love scenes (and yes, they're not just sex scenes!) are tender and gentle.
Both Chad and Peter have had bad relationships in their past but when they meet and instantly connect, both realize things could be very different. The way they relate to Peter's kids is just delightful.
I realy, really liked reading this book and will probably re-read it many times.

I wasn't thinking to buy a sci-fiction romance when I bought First Steps... The story of a man who willingly decides to mate with a single parents with two babies under one years old? pure science fiction!!! Ok, ok, I'm joking.
This is a tenderful story about Chad, a lonely park ranger who arrives like a knight in shining armor to help Peter, a gay man who has decided to be father, and has used a substitutive mother to gain his goal.
But the life of a single father, even more of a single father of twins, is not simple and also living in an isolated cottage in the mist of a forest. So when Chad appears on the front door is like a miracle.
And all the book is a miracle: the miracle of life and love, love between lovers and love between parents and sons. It's a vry beautiful story, maybe a little too perfect if we see the real life: but this is one of the reason becuase I read romance, because I want to dream of the perfect love.

Peter Boone is a single father of infant twins Daniel and Ellen. Peter is vacationing in the country with the babies hoping to stay permanently.
Chad Bristow is a ranger who stops by to warn Peter about the dangers of forest fires. The men hit it off right away and Chad invites them to dinner, then to spend the night. Chad is wonderful with the babies and with Peter, but is there room for another in Peter's unique and loving family?
Babies, bottles and strong emotions fill the pages of First Steps. It's different from any of Sean Michael's previous works; he proves he can do endearing as well as erotic with this tenderhearted story. Ellen and Daniel are adorable and Chad and Peter are loving, passionate men. First Steps is a very sexy, tender, and heart-warming story. Wonderful.
