Definitely a stronger book than the 1st, the author has come a long way!!
By Ms. Just One More Book
(Warning: Spoilers from book one)
Book two immediately begins where book one left off. By faking her annual test via switching her blood, Elle has been considered tainted. She has been taken to the above ground Hope City. A city not of tainted people, but those of talented ones. She has only one thing in mind, continuing her mission to find her best friend Sebastian who was deemed tainted and taken from the ARC two weeks prior. At first Hope City seems like a truly amazing place, but slowly secrets emerge. Secrets that not only put Elle in danger, as someone without any talents, but her new friends as well. Will Elle find Sebastian in time, or did she doom herself when she chose to follow him?
Just like the first book, I'm grading this book a bit on a curve as this is only the author's second book ever. Nonetheless, Alexandra Moody's talent and strength as an author has undoubtedly grown between books one and two, and this book showcases that growth. Even without the curve, in my humble non important opinion, I would rate this book at 4 stars. But with the curve and the growth, I think she definitely deserves a 5 star rating.
Unlike book one, Alexandra quickly hit her stride from the beginning in this book. From the first few pages, she was able to draw me into this new world of Hope City, and life above the ARC. The surprises started quickly within just a couple chapters, and never let up. Every time I thought I knew for sure what was going to happen next, I was pleasantly surprised by a new revelation into this secretive world. It's more than obvious that this author had a well thought out plot, and she executed it nicely!
The characters were much more relatable as well this book. Although at times Elle could still be a bit selfish, the always impulsive heroine captured my heart by her intentions. I also thoroughly enjoyed the addition of the two newest characters of Hunter and Lara. Their fierce loyalty, kindness, and back stories give an added depth to the pages.
Once again this was another quick read in just less than a day, but a completely engrossing one. If you're a fan of the Institute Series, then I urge you to give this one a try. After seeing the progress made in book two, I am definitely looking forward to book three!

Awesome quick read
By Jess
Talented was every bit as good as Tainted! I loved seeing Elle adjust to the strange new world and seeing her make relationships with Hunter and Lara. I am quite curious as to what is going to happen with April. I can't wait for the next book!

Just gets better and better
By Ellie Firestone
I downloaded the first book in the ARC series, Tainted, for free, and I liked it enough that I went ahead and bought this book. I'm very glad I did.
In Talented, we see what goes on after you get taken out of the ARC. Without revealing too much, most people on the surface have superpowers of some kind. However, Elle doesn't, because she faked her test results and escaped the ARC when she wasn't supposed to. And not only that -- she somehow has to find her friend/love interest, Sebastian, in this gigantic city.
The plot was absolutely gripping. I read this whole book in less than two days. I was thrilled by the inclusion of superpowers (major superhero fan here), and all the new dilemmas which were introduced kept me turning pages over and over again. As for the characters, I felt that Elle grew more throughout the story, becoming more willing to take risks. I was also charmed by the new characters who were introduced -- Lara, the spunky empath, and Hunter, the loveable rogue. I normally end up wanting to strangle any new friends or love interests which show up in the second book of a series, but these guys were perfect, and I have to congratulate the author for this.
On the negative side, there are a few typos and grammar mistakes in this book ("faint" vs "feint", etc). The first book had the same problem, which was why I rated it 4 stars. However, I felt that I had to give this one a 5, because it is so much stronger than the first one.
If you've read Tainted, and you're considering reading this one, definitely go for it. The ARC series just gets better.
