Let me put it simple. It is the best book on competition policy in the market. Well written, intuitive and insightful. It covers most of the important topics on competition policy. I can even say, that most of the literature on Industrial Organization starts making sense after reading this book. It can be complemented with the Handbook on Antitrust Economics.

The book presents fundamental numerical methods which are most frequently applied in the electrical (electronic) engineering. A scope of this book is rather wide and includes solving the sets of linear and nonlinear equations, interpolation and approximation of the functions of one variable, integration and differentation of the functions of one and two variables, integration of the ordinary differential equations, and integration the partial differential equations of two variables. All methods discussed are illustrated with real-world examples of applications. It is shown how real engineering questions can be transformed into the corresponding mathematical problems and next effectively solved by using appropriate numerical methods. Usually, for teaching reasons, mathematical problems are solved step by step, and illustrated by neumerous intermediate results. Thus, it is not only explained how the problem can be solved, but the details of the solution are also demonstrated. In Chapter 7 for instance three electrical rectifying devices and a transmission-line non- homogeneous impedance transformer are analyzed in this manner. Similarly, in Chapter 8 different aspects of Laplace boundary value problem formulated for various kinds of single and coupled TEM transmission lines are presented. In other words, six standard TEM transmission lines are investigated by means of the finite difference method. It is shown how a partial differential equation of the second order can be approximated by the corresponding difference equation defined on interior and boundary nodes of the introduced grid. At the next stage, the set of linear equations, formulated in this way, is recurrently solved by using the effective SOR technique. Additionally, ideas of " fictitious nodes " and the " even and odd mode excitations " methods are explained and illustrated. All methods and computational results, presented in the book, are of significant practical value. Thus, this book may be especially helpful for students of electronic departments of technical universities and for practicing engineers.

About the Author

Jacqueline Brunetti, MD, is the Director of Radiology at Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck, New Jersey; an Associate Clinical Professor of Radiology, part-time, at New York—Presbyterian Medical Center, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons; and a senior FAA aviation medical examiner.

She is board certified in radiology, nuclear medicine, nuclear radiology, and integrative medicine; maintains membership in numerous professional organizations; and serves as consultant on the Medical Devices Advisory Committee of the FDA.

Dr. Brunetti holds a private pilot’s license with logged flight hours in both single-engine and turboprop airplanes. An FAA-designated aviation medical examiner for more than twenty years, she has been a senior medical examiner for fifteen years. She is also a certified human intervention medical sponsor, trained to help evaluate pilots with substance abuse, depression, and other psychiatric issues.

Dr. Brunetti has appeared on radio and television broadcasts including CNN, NJ Channel 12, WABC, and WOR.

Operator's Need to Maintain the Same Fitness As the Equipment

Dr. Brunetti has multiple qualifications and skills. As a Senior FAA Medical Examiner for re-certifying pilots at required intervals, she brings to aviation safety her well-honed skills as a practicing physician. Re-certification is not automatic. Obviously in her career, she has encountered pilots no longer medically capable of ensuring passenger safety at the level demanded by the public and codified by the FAA.
Admirably, she notes that newly developed cardiovascular conditions most frequently limit pilot re-certification and that many or most of these conditions can be prevented or controlled. The issue is the apparent lack of 'pilot safety' maintenance which each and every pilot demands of their aeroplane.
Using her multiple qualifications in diverse medical specialties,she explains the physiology of the problems and offers proven methods of prevention and control. Her family background and experiences add credence to her advocacy of the Mediterranean diet.
The missing link in the solution to the problems which can develop is the 'you' factor. Although written for the benefit of the aeronautics industry, her wisdom and advice are applicable in all our lives!

Dr. Brunetti adeptly translates heart disease and how to prevent it in pilot language. This book is a gem. It must become required reading and a roadmap to prevention for all airlines, FAA and pilots. I would like to know that every time I board a plane, the pilots take as good care of their hearts as they do of the workings of the plane.

Wonderful advice from someone who has all the credentials, extensive medical experience plus a background in alternative medicine, and in addition she has been an AME for many years, If that isn't enough she owns and flies her Grumman Tiger. There are many personal touches that make this book entertaining as well as informative.
